Kabbalistic astrology shows us the process of incarnation of the spirit on Earth and how the terrestrial experience expands the consciousness of the spirit. From there we can see that both the spiritual and terrestrial worlds do not maintain a hierarchy, but rather nourish each other.
“In the Tree of Life we see a hieroglyph of the soul of the human being and the Universe; and in the legends associated with it is the story of the Evolution of the Soul and the Path of Initiation.” (Dion Fortune - Mystical Kabbalah - 1935).
We have created a culture where the “divine” is superior to the world of matter. But if we see it from an astrological point of view, the axiom of Hermes Trismegistus “as above, so below” speaks of correspondences between the two planes. We can see it as cosmic events reflecting the terrestrial experience or, if we go further, as correspondences between different dimensions.
According to the aspects that are formed between the planets, we see which are the qualities or capacities that we have come to introduce on the terrestrial plane and which on the spiritual plane.
In the relationship between two planets we consider an Outward path and a Return path. We can see these paths in the Tree of Life. If, for example, we have an applicative conjunction between Sun and Neptune (the Sun approaching Neptune), we can see that the spirit (Sun)brings the self into the Whole. If, on the other hand, it is Neptune that forms an applicative conjunction to the Sun (Neptune approaching the Sun), it is the Whole shaping the Sun.
There is much more to say about the astrological aspects in Kabbalistic astrology, but we will look at that in depth in future articles.
“The Kabbalah tells us that the stars and planets are like filters that allow light to be received safely. Each astrological configuration, each month and its corresponding sign, blocks most of the light, yet allows a manageable portion of it to reach us in the physical world. The characteristics of the portion of the light we receive are different for each month/sign. That's why each month/sign has its own strengths and weaknesses. As you've probably already guessed, the month/sign we were born in has the strongest influence on our lifelong journey. This is because it is at the moment of birth that the soul enters the physical body. With our first breath we receive the seed of all our lives.” - Kabbalistic Astrology - Rav Philips
