The Transits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto
An exploration of the energies of planetary transits of transpersonal planets with Carl Sagan's assistance (Oh! If only he knew me...)
First of all, I apologize to Carl Sagan for discussing transpersonal planets using his example, as Sagan wasn’t much of a fan of astrology. However, I am a fan of his, and he made me fall in love with the cosmos.
In Cosmos, Sagan invites us to imagine a two-dimensional world called Flatland (based on the book Flatland by Edwin A. Abbott). In this world, the inhabitants can only move in two dimensions: length and width. They have no concept of the third dimension (height), and any three-dimensional being would be completely incomprehensible to them.
Then, Sagan asks us to think about how a three-dimensional being would appear to the Flatland inhabitants. If a three-dimensional sphere entered Flatland, the two-dimensional inhabitants would only see a section of the sphere that touches their plane. As the sphere passes through the plane, the "projection" of the sphere would change from a point to an expanding circle, then shrink and disappear. To the two-dimensional beings, the sphere would seem magical, impossible to fully comprehend, because they are only seeing a partial projection of something that exists in a dimension they cannot conceive.
This is a powerful parallel to the idea of a fourth dimension. We, as three-dimensional beings, can only perceive what happens within three dimensions, but if a being or phenomenon from the fourth dimension interacted with our world, we would only see a partial projection, without being able to fully comprehend its nature. This is the crucial point in Sagan’s explanation: although we cannot imagine the fourth dimension in its entirety, we can begin to intuit it through projections of how it might manifest in our three-dimensional world.
The concept of the fourth dimension that Sagan presents aligns perfectly with what we've discussed regarding transpersonal planets in astrology. Let’s dive deeper into this connection:
Uranus and the Fourth Dimension: Uranus, by bringing sudden shifts in consciousness, is like that three-dimensional sphere passing through Flatland. It gives us a momentary projection of something that exists beyond our capacity for perception, something in another "dimension" of reality. The Uranian impact is that moment of illumination or awakening, when our minds briefly open to a possibility we couldn’t conceive before. We see a fragment of a new reality but cannot fully grasp it.
Neptune and the Dissolution of Dimensionality: Neptune, on the other hand, is like the energy that dissolves us into the whole. Neptune reminds us that the separation between dimensions is, in a sense, illusory. Just as the inhabitants of Flatland are limited by their two-dimensional perception, Neptune dissolves the boundaries between the dimensions we think we know, connecting us with something broader and universal, even if we cannot fully define it. It helps us intuit that the reality we perceive is only a small part of something much larger.
Pluto and Dimensional Transformation: Pluto represents the process of deep transformation that takes us beyond our current way of seeing reality. Just as Carl Sagan uses the idea of a sphere passing through a two-dimensional plane to illustrate the fourth dimension, Pluto represents the destruction of our old three-dimensional structures (the reality we know) to be reborn in a new dimension of understanding. It is an intense process where what was once known no longer makes sense, and a new consciousness emerges from the void.
Carl Sagan’s explanation of the fourth dimension is a brilliant example of how we can attempt to visualize what is beyond our three-dimensional perception. And this concept is deeply reflected in astrology, where transpersonal planets like Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto connect us with dimensions of consciousness that transcend what we can normally conceive.
Just as the inhabitants of Flatland can only see part of the three-dimensional sphere, we only perceive fragments of these transpersonal energies. They give us glimpses of something larger, more expansive, that we cannot fully comprehend. These transits invite us to expand our consciousness, to intuit what lies beyond our immediate grasp, yet always with the sense that something remains outside our understanding.
Illuminating, thanku!
